Busworld Southeast Asia 2026 once again demonstrated why Jakarta is emerging as one of the most important meeting places for the ASEAN bus and coach industry. Held from May 20 to 22, the fourth edition of the exhibition brought together 47 exhibitors from nine countries and attracted 5,133 registered visitors from 41 nations.
Spanning approximately 8,000 square meters, the event showcased 25 vehicles and highlighted the latest developments in bus manufacturing, passenger transportation, and mobility solutions. Organizers confirmed that the next edition of Busworld Southeast Asia will take place in May 2028.

Passenger Comfort and Premium Travel Experiences Take Center Stage
One of the strongest trends observed during the exhibition was the growing focus on passenger comfort and travel experience across the Southeast Asian bus market. Premium seating configurations, high-quality interior designs, and modern sleeper coaches attracted significant attention from operators and visitors alike. In the long-distance transportation segment, bus companies are increasingly introducing multiple travel classes, offering passengers a choice between standard seating and private sleeper cabins, similar to services provided by airlines and rail operators.

Positive Market Sentiment Despite Economic Challenges
While Indonesia’s bus market remains relatively cautious, exhibitors reported a highly positive atmosphere throughout the event. Busy exhibition stands, productive business meetings, and strong interest from industry stakeholders reflected continued confidence in the sector. Beyond vehicle sales opportunities, many companies emphasized the importance of the exhibition as a sourcing platform for components, spare parts, and technical solutions. Several exhibitors noted that Busworld Southeast Asia has evolved into a key procurement and networking event for the regional bus industry.

Industry Leaders and Transport Operators Gather in Jakarta
According to participants, the exhibition attracted virtually every major stakeholder in the Southeast Asian bus ecosystem. In addition to Indonesia’s leading bodybuilders, the event welcomed operators from public transportation systems, intercity coach services, and tourism-related transport businesses. This broad participation further reinforced the event’s role as a central meeting point for the industry.
International Delegations Explore Indonesia’s Public Transport Innovations
A delegation of Malaysian bus and coach operators attended the exhibition alongside Masita Binti Mat Isa, Deputy Director General of Operations at APAD, Malaysia’s land public transport agency. Together with members of the international trade media, the delegation visited TransJakarta, a strategic partner of Busworld Southeast Asia and one of the world’s largest Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems. Carrying more than one million passengers daily, TransJakarta plays a crucial role in Jakarta’s public transport modernization and electrification efforts and is increasingly viewed as a benchmark project for Southeast Asia.
Indonesia Remains the Driving Force Behind Southeast Asia’s Bus Manufacturing Industry
Indonesia continues to play a pivotal role in the regional bus sector, boasting one of Southeast Asia’s largest bus markets and a well-established local bodybuilder industry. Unlike the European market, many Indonesian manufacturers operate through a chassis-bodybuilder business model, where local bodybuilders are responsible for vehicle customization, finishing, and customer relations. This unique structure has helped Indonesia develop a highly competitive and innovative bus manufacturing ecosystem, attracting growing interest from international suppliers and vehicle manufacturers seeking local partnerships.
