Cummıns Secures Major Natural Gas Engıne Order For Rome Bus Fleet

Global power leader Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI) is continuing to expand in the bus market after securing a deal to supply 244 L9N compressed natural gas (CNG) engines to Solaris Bus & Coach, one of Europe’s leading bus and trolleybus manufacturers

Cummins will be delivering L9N Euro 6 compliant engines to power a fleet of CNG buses operated by ATAC in Rome. This latest order comes as Cummins achieves a major milestone in its long-standing partnership with Solaris, having supplied more than 6,500 engines over the last two decades.

As the long-term supplier of diesel and CNG engines, including for hybrid powertrains, Cummins is now providing the L9N engine for Solaris’s Urbino 12 and articulated Urbino 18 models.

Utilising ultra-low emission combustion engine technology, Cummins’ L9N has a power output of 320hp, combined with a simple, three-way catalyst aftertreatment system which minimises NOx and particulate matter, whilst delivering diesel-like performance and reliability.

With high-performance capabilities, the L9N engine combines the benefits of clean-burning, cost-effective natural gas without any compromises in power and torque. This enables transport operators to reduce tailpipe carbon emissions in highly urbanised cities.

Dariusz Kosek, Territory Manager, Southern and Eastern Europe added“This milestone order highlights our joint commitment to reducing tailpipe emissions while providing efficient and reliable power options for urban environments. It’s fantastic to have such a long standing relationship with an industry leading company such as Solaris – twenty years and counting! We look forward to many more years of continued collaboration.”

This is the latest development in the Cummins and Solaris partnership following similar significant order commitments in Spain, Estonia, Poland, Belgium and Romania.
