Europe’s number of hydrogen buses increases yet again thanks to Solaris

Solaris Bus & Coach, one of Europe’s top providers of hydrogen buses, will be delivering more of its state-of-the-art Urbino hydrogen-powered buses to Germany and France, with both deliveries expected to be completed in 2025.

For Germany, Solaris will be supplying the hydrogen buses to REVG Kerpen, marking the first ever collaboration between Solaris and REVG Kerpen. The delivery will include a total of 26 hydrogen buses, including the Urbino 12 hydrogen model.

These buses feature 70-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cells. The fuel cells are designed to generate electrical energy onboard and are powered by central electric motors. Additionally, these Urbino buses have Solaris High Power batteries, which support optimal fuel cell operation during peak electricity demand.

This order for H2 buses to be delivered to Germany is only one of several Solaris has been a part of in recent years. Currently, Solaris hydrogen-powered public transportation buses are already in operation in Cologne, Hofolding, Wuppertal, Frankfurt, Weimar, Aschaffenburg, Gross-Zimmern, and the Munich metropolitan region, with more buses on the way for other German cities.

France to get eight more hydrogen buses

Most recently, Solaris sealed a deal with SMTC (Le Syndicat Mixte des Transports en Commun du Territoire de Belfort) that will see the company deliver eight hydrogen buses to Belfort. The eight buses will be the Urbino 18 hydrogen model, an 18-meter zero-emission bus that features Solaris’ state-of-the-art system.

This system includes a 100-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell and a composite tank that can store over 50 kilograms of hydrogen at a pressure of 350 bar. Like the Urbino 12, the 18 model is equipped with Solaris High Power batteries, which support the fuel cell during peak electricity demand. Additionally, the bus has a 240-kilowatt electric motor and combines a modular drive with guaranteed optimal driving performance.

This delivery marks the third order for hydrogen fuel cell buses in France in recent months.
