WABCO Won 2016 European Commercial Vehicle Safety Award

WABCO’s Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Christian Wiehen, received the “2016 European Commercial Vehicle Safety Award” by the European Association for Accident Research and Analysis (EVU), a pan-European association of leading experts in the field of accident research and reconstruction.

WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE: WBC), a leading global supplier of technologies that improve the safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles, today announced that Dr. Christian Wiehen, WABCO Chief Technology Officer, has received the prestigious “2016 European Commercial Vehicle Safety Award.” The award was bestowed by a jury of experts affiliated with the European Association for Accident Research and Analysis (EVU), German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association (DEKRA), and the German Road Safety Council (DVR).

Since 1990, the EVU and affiliated organizations have recognized leaders in business, education and industry organizations for their exceptional contributions to improving vehicle and road safety related to trucks, buses and trailers.

“Dr. Christian Wiehen has been at the forefront of technological innovation which has significantly improved the safety of commercial vehicles in Europe and across the world,” said Prof. Egon Christian von Glasner, President of the European Association for Accident Research and Analysis (EVU), in his congratulatory remarks. “It’s hard to imagine today’s intelligent safety systems on trucks and trailers without Dr. Wiehen’s numerous contributions. In addition, he continues to pave the way for autonomous driving in the commercial vehicle industry.”

Dr. Christian Wiehen was instrumental in the advancement of numerous safety technologies for trucks, buses and trailers, including Anti-lock Braking (ABS), Electronic Braking (EBS), Collision Mitigation, and Advanced Emergency Braking Systems, as well as Electronic Stability Control. These systems mark critical steps toward enabling autonomous driving in the commercial vehicle industry.

Dr. Christian Wiehen has served as WABCO’s Chief Technology Officer since 2008. He joined WABCO in 1988 and has held various leadership positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, product marketing and manufacturing since then. Dr. Wiehen holds a graduate degree in mechanical engineering and a doctorate degree in engineering both from the Technical University of Hanover, Germany.
