SANTIAGO ADDS 80 NEW VOLVO ARTICULATED BUSES TO ITS FLEET
Volvo Buses is one of the main suppliers of buses for the fleet renewal in Chile’s capital and has secured one of its largest orders in Latin America for 564 buses. Now Volvo has signed another major bus contract in Santiago for 80 articulated buses. The 80 buses have been acquired by Subus, one of the city’s largest transport companies, and they will operate as part of the Red Metropolitana de Movilidad (RED), the capital’s public transport system.
Volvo Buses and Subus have a close cooperation, with Subus now operating 1,108 buses, almost all of them Volvos.

The RED in Santiago is one of the largest public transport systems in Latin America. It currently has more than 5,000 buses in operation and around 30 percent are Volvo buses. All of the city’s buses are connected to the Santiago Metro, the subway system, and MetroTren, the train system.
“As in other cities with an organised transport system, we are known for our large-capacity chassis and buses,” explains Alexandre Selski, Strategic Sales Director for Volvo Buses in Latin America.
The 80 buses ordered by Subus are Volvo B8RLEA models. These buses have a low-entry chassis with capacity for 180 passengers. The articulated Volvo chassis offers state-of-the-art technology, with advanced on-board electronics, electronic disc brakes and suspension, Volvo fleet management system and I-Coaching. The fleet managers can also activate Volvo’s automatic speed control system, which is known as Zone Management.
The 80 Volvo B8RLEA articulated chassis for Subus will be produced in the Volvo plant in Borås, Sweden, and the bodies will be made by Marcopolo.
