Swedish bus Market Declined 30% in 2024,

with e-bus Share Growing to 32%

The Swedish bus market experienced a 30% drop in new registrations
in 2024, with a total of 783 new buses registered. Despite the overall
decline, the share of electric buses increased, reaching 32% of total
registrations, up from 28% in 2023, although the figure of e-buses
registered decreased 5%. The news is reported on Swedish trade
media Bussmagasinet.se, based on data from the industry organisation
Mobility Sweden.

Mercedes, MAN, and Setra led the market in heavy bus registrations for
the year. These three brands dominated the category of buses over 10
tons, which saw a 39% reduction in new registrations compared to 2023,
with a total of 512 units registered in 2024.

Electric buses accounted for a larger portion of the market in 2024, despite
a slight decrease in absolute numbers. A total of 235 new electric buses
were registered, down from 249 in 2023, still according to Bussmagasinet.
se. However, the percentage share of electric buses in the total market
grew, reflecting the broader push towards cleaner transport solutions.

Gas-powered buses saw a drastic reduction, with just 13 new units
registered in 2024, compared to 144 the previous year, a decrease of
91%. Diesel buses also experienced a decline, with 264 new diesel buses
registered, down from 414 in 2023, a decrease of 36.2%.
